Visual Memory Centre is a project initiated by three independent cultural organizations from Belgrade – Transimage, Media Archeology and Svetloton.
Visual Memory Centre represents a hub, both visible and recognizable in the local context. This project considers institutionally forgotten media practices and artifacts – that reveal a great deal about the nature of commemoration at a national, local and personal level – and generates a construction site for rectification of social and historical narratives. Through the activities of screenings, workshops, archiving, lectures and discussions that Visual Memory Centre will host and organize; artists, theorists and citizens could begin to address the notion of public memory and the processes of creating it outside the scope of state, educational and media institutions.
